Cristian is a jazz musician from a place where jazz doesn’t exist. With a sound and concept that defies conventional categories, he doesn't see jazz as a "what" but rather as a "how"—a medium for personal expression, and a tool to create something new. Blending modernity with inspirations from 20th-century academic music and the complex rhythms of Eastern Europe and the Middle East, Cristian is trying to create a sub-genre that’s entirely his own. Each composition is a testament to bravery, honesty, and the constant pursuit of self-exploration.
Having performed at festivals like Umbria Jazz (Italy), One Jazz Festival (Romania), Jazz’n’Chisinau International Festival (Moldova), Cristian pushes the boundaries of what music can be, inviting audiences to question, evolve, and embrace the inevitability of change and evolution.
Although he frequently performs as a sideman with renowned artists and orchestras such as Lăutarii (led by Nicolae Botgros), Vali Boghean, Satoshi, and the Moldovan National Youth Orchestra, Cristian consistently finds time to compose and release new music. So far, he has released two albums—Meditations and To and For—and is now preparing to launch his third, Momentum. Meanwhile, as part of his Master’s Thesis at Berklee College of Music, Cristian is developing a new musical style that blends 20th-century academic music with the traditional rhythms of his native Moldova and the Balkans–all in the context of a contemporary jazz setting.
Cristian’s mission is simple and clear: to challenge what music can be and to inspire others to dream beyond the present, sharing the joy and freedom of music that refuses to conform.
